Fitzgerald Assistant Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School
Education B.Sc., Central Missouri
State U.; Ph.D., Institute of Molecular Virology, St. Louis Univ,
Missouri
Dr. Fitzgerald graduated from Central Missouri State University and obtained his Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology from Saint Louis University. He did his postdoctoral studies at the Harvard School of Public Health in the Cardiovascular Laboratory of Dr. Edgar Haber under the mentorship of Dr. Guy L. Reed. In 1999 he joined Dr. Freeman's Lipid Metabolism Unit at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Fitzgerald has now become an independent investigator, having been awarded an RO1 grant from the NHLBI. The focus of his research is on the ABCA1 cholesterol efflux transporter and the application of a mass spectrometry approach to define protein-protein interactions that regulate the transporter. |

Zahedi Mujawar Research Fellow
Education M.Sc. (microbiology); M.Phil., Ph.D. (biochemistry and mol. biology), George Washington U.
Interests
I study the effect of HIV/SIV infection on reverse cholesterol transport and coronary artery disease; the molecular mechanisms underlying ABCA1-dependent cholesterol efflux; and foam cell formation and atherosclerosis.

Jennifer Tobin Laboratory Manager
Education B.Sc., Memorial U. of Newfoundland and Labrador; Candidate for Master of Liberal Arts, Harvard
Interests Atherosclerosis and lipid metabolism
My research aims at understanding the role of scavenger receptors in atherosclerosis. Using knock-out mouse models, I am exploring the role of these receptors in lipid metabolism, inflammation and atheroma development. When I am not in the lab, I enjoy Irish step dancing, playing the piano, traveling and watching movies.

Debbie Zhuang Lab Technician
Education B.S. in Biological and Chemical Engineering
Interests Painting, piano, photography and reading
I am currently studying the lipid efflux capabilities of ABCA transporter proteins.

Ying Zuo Research Fellow
Education M.D., Ph.D.
Interests Travel, tennis, and cooking, among other things
My project focuses on ABCA3 (ATP-binding cassette transporter A3). This factor has an important role in surfactant metabolism. |
