  Jia Wolfe Director, Chemistry
Education B.S., University of Science and Technology of China, Ph.D., SUNY Stony Brook
Interests Organic chemistry, chemical Biology, and drug discovery

After obtaining my Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, I worked with Professor Gregory Verdine at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Harvard University. My interests in both drug discovery and novel technology development were enhanced through my work in the biotech industry. I enjoy the creative and interdisciplinary environment here, and spending time with my husband Scot and sons Nathan and Tyler.

Julian Banerji, Visiting Scientist
Education B.S., Cornell University, M.S., SUNY Stonybrook, Ph.D., U. of Zurich Inst. for Molekular Biologie II
Interests Understanding life and remaining creative

I had a stroke fifteen years ago, which compromised my brain function. I am trying stay connected to science while discovering what limits are imposed on my cognition and physical abilities. I am currently fascinated by asparagine, as it may be a focal point of mammalian growth control. I am a member of the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission. Franz Kafka is my screensaver.

Glen Cho Research Team Leader I
Education B.S., University of California at San Diego; Ph.D. Harvard University
Interests Biochemistry, technology development, drug discovery

My Ph.D. from Jack Szostak’s laboratory concentrated on improvement and implementation of mRNA display technology. At CCIB I work with a team to develop new display technologies to aid further our drug discovery program. Technology development is particularly interesting to me because I feel that approaching complex problems with new methods is at the forefront of scientific advancement. The diversity of specialities in the CCIB allows for unique approaches to exciting scientific problems.

Tomohiko Kawate Research Team Leader I
Education B.S., M.S., Ph.D., Chiba University, Japan
Interests Organic and medicinal chemistry

My education is in pharmaceutical science and I have been working on the synthesis of natural products such as indole alkaloids, sphingosines and nucleosides. I'm currently enjoying my contribution in the field of life science as a synthetic organic chemist very much and am interested in finding lead compounds in our drug discovery program. In addition to research, I like to play and watch sports, baseball, softball, tennis etc.

  Sylvia Lee Research Technician
Education B.A., UC Berkeley
Interests Art, Gaudi, Borges, outer space

I am working on finding binders for cell-surface proteins expressed on cancerous B-lymphocytes.

Xiaorong Liu Research Team Leader I
Education B.S., Nanjing University; Ph.D., University of Rochester
Interests Organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry and drug discovery

After I received my Ph.D. in organic chemistry while working in Prof. Robert Boeckman's group at the University of Rochester in 2004, I worked for two years with Prof. Scott Denmark at the University of Illinois. My interest in drug discovery led me to join the CCIB. I enjoy working on the cutting edge of technology, and I like the collaborative atmosphere and creative research here. When I'm at home I enjoy spending my time with my husband, as well as cooking, exercising and doing photography.

  Dmitriy Richter Research Technologist
Education B.Sc., McGill University, Biology
Interests Cooking, travel, running, writing

I am interested in the investigation and treatment of human cancers such as leukemia.

Vivian Sun Senior Research Lab Technologist
Education B.S., Beijing Normal University, Beijing, China; M.S., Tufts University
Interests Work, sports, movies and plays

My research experience includes exploring genetic engineering methods of generating novel cellulose materials, developing recombinant protein drugs, and cloning natural product biosynthetic genes. I have been involved in a number of projects since I joined the Seed Lab and am currently working on the treatment of cancer cells. I like the open environment of the CCIB and benefit from the expertise of others every day.
Jack Tsai Research Team Leader I
Education B.S., National Cheng-Kung University, Taiwan; M.S., National Yang-Ming University, Taiwan; Ph.D., Yale University

I am working toward improving immunotoxins for the treatment of various diseases. I enjoy working and interacting with people from different disciplines at CCIB.

  Yinyan Zhao Research Technologist
Education MA, Organic Chemistry, Boston University
Interests Organic chemistry, drug discovery

The creativity of organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry has always attracted me. I love the life sciences. I hope that what I do at work can one day make a difference in people's lives. In my spare time, I like spending time with my family, traveling, cooking, reading books, watching movies and enjoying music.

  Li Zhou Team Leader, Proteomics
Education B.S., M.S., Nankai University; Ph.D., Beijing University
Interests Asthma research, drug discovery in cancer and inflammation

I enjoy our drug discovery program in this multidisciplinary setting. I benefited from my previous work experiences on plant research, particularly in dealing with the complexity of biological questions. I strongly believe that our effort that will someday be beneficial for the improvement of human health. In my spare time I like to explore nature with my family, especially hiking, mountain biking and nature photography.
