  Jia Wolfe Director, Chemistry
Education B.S., University of Science and Technology of China, Ph.D., SUNY Stony Brook
Interests Organic chemistry, chemical Biology, and drug discovery

After obtaining my Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, I worked with Professor Gregory Verdine at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Harvard University. My interests in both drug discovery and novel technology development were enhanced through my work in the biotech industry. I enjoy the creative and interdisciplinary environment here, and spending time with my husband Scot and sons Nathan and Tyler.

  Elizabeth Adams, Research Technologist
Education Boston College, 2006
Interests Horseback riding, running and the outdoors

I recently graduated from Boston College, and I am very excited to be a part of CCIB. I am currently working on  binary targeting of cancer cells in the hopes of finding a drug which will specifically target cancerous cells and not normal cells. In the future I plan to continue my education and pursue a Ph.D. in the field of cancer research.

Julian Banerji, Visiting Scientist
Education B.S., Cornell University, M.S., SUNY Stonybrook, Ph.D., U. of Zurich Inst. for Molekular Biologie II
Interests Understanding life and remaining creative

I had a stroke fifteen years ago, which compromised my brain function. I am trying stay connected to science while discovering what limits are imposed on my cognition and physical abilities. I am currently fascinated by asparagine, as it may be a focal point of mammalian growth control. I am a member of the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission. Franz Kafka is my screensaver.

Glen Cho Research Team Leader I
Education B.S., University of California at San Diego; Ph.D. Harvard University
Interests Biochemistry, technology development, drug discovery

My Ph.D. from Jack Szostak’s laboratory concentrated on improvement and implementation of mRNA display technology. At CCIB I work with a team to develop new display technologies to aid further our drug discovery program. Technology development is particularly interesting to me because I feel that approaching complex problems with new methods is at the forefront of scientific advancement. The diversity of specialities in the CCIB allows for unique approaches to exciting scientific problems.
Irina Groisman Research Team Leader 1
Education M.S. and Ph.D., Kiev State University
Interests Translation control of gene expression, its applications for aging and cancer

My work at UMass on translational regulation of gene expression led me to the field of cancer. I realized the complexity of this disease and want to find new approaches to its treatment. The CCIB is an excellent place for this goal. I enjoy reading and spending free time with my family.

Tomohiko Kawate Research Team Leader I
Education B.S., M.S., Ph.D., Chiba University, Japan
Interests Organic and medicinal chemistry

My education is in pharmaceutical science and I have been working on the synthesis of natural products such as indole alkaloids, sphingosines and nucleosides. I'm currently enjoying my contribution in the field of life science as a synthetic organic chemist very much and am interested in finding lead compounds in our drug discovery program. In addition to research, I like to play and watch sports, baseball, softball, tennis etc.

  Sylvia Lee Research Technician
Education B.A., UC Berkeley
Interests Art, Gaudi, Borges, outer space

I am working on finding binders for cell-surface proteins expressed on cancerous B-lymphocytes.
  Jue Liang Research Technologist
Education B.S., Nanjing Normal U.; M.S., East China Normal U.; M.S., Brandeis Univ.
Interests Drug discovery and organic synthesis

I am currently doing research into discovery of new and novel therapeutic drugs. My expertise is in the organic synthesis area of drug discovery. When I'm not at my bench or my computer at Simches, I enjoy spending time with my family.

Xiaorong Liu Research Team Leader I
Education B.S., Nanjing University; Ph.D., University of Rochester
Interests Organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry and drug discovery

After I received my Ph.D. in organic chemistry while working in Prof. Robert Boeckman's group at the University of Rochester in 2004, I worked for two years with Prof. Scott Denmark at the University of Illinois. My interest in drug discovery led me to join the CCIB. I enjoy working on the cutting edge of technology, and I like the collaborative atmosphere and creative research here. When I'm at home I enjoy spending my time with my husband, as well as cooking, exercising and doing photography.

  Hannah Milewicz Research Technologist
Education Dipl. Eng. for Biopharmaceutical Technology, U. of Applied Sciences, Giessen, Germany
Interests Drug discovery and development, development of new technologies and methods

I focus on analytics on the NMR, chromatography and LCMS to contribute to drug and technology development in the CCIB. I like both the biological and technological aspects of working inthe field of therapeutics. Traveling and getting to know new cultures both socially and in the lab fascinates me and is the reason I came here from my home in Clausthal-Zellerfeld.

  Manisha Sijapati Research Technologist
Education BA, Wellesley College
Interests Traveling, sports and exploring nature

I am very glad to be a part of CCIB. My research focuses on binary targeting of cancer cells and selecting new scaffold proteins for evolution of binders to specific targets.

Vivian Sun Senior Research Lab Technologist
